Form 5500 Data in the Hillwinds API

Understand which Hillwinds fields originate in Form 5500 filings, how they are normalized, and where proprietary data extends the filing record.

Looking for a commercial endpoint? Start with the dedicated Form 5500 API page for a sandbox request, enriched response, and direct DOL EFAST comparison.

What is Form 5500 data?

Form 5500 is an annual employee-benefit plan filing. It is useful for plan facts and historical reporting, but a filing is not a current company profile: names, addresses, brokers, carriers, and employee counts can change between filings.

How filing fields map to the API

Filing data versus proprietary data

DataForm 5500 filingHillwinds enrichment

Broker and carrierMay appear in schedulesResolved entities, relationships, tenure, and change signals

Provenance matters
Treat filing-derived values as reported historical facts and Hillwinds enrichments as normalized or derived fields. Field definitions and attribution in the response should be retained when data is exported downstream.

Querying filing-related company fields

Start with the Companies API, request mode=full, and use count-only or dry-run requests before retrieving a large result. The Field Tiers page lists fields that require advanced access.
